“As Israel’s war on Gaza continues, we’re coming to you on Sundays with a weekly roundup. This week, 130 days into a ceasefire, Israel has killed at least 574 Palestinians in Gaza.
The reopening of the crossing between Gaza and Egypt remains insufficient to meet Palestinians’ needs. Israel returned more bodies of Palestinians it had killed to Gaza. Today is Sunday, February 8th.
Israel has killed more than 71,850 Palestinians in Gaza since October 7th, 2023. The Rafah crossing between Egypt and Gaza officially opened on Monday, but with severe restrictions. So far, around 30 people have been allowed to leave Gaza for medical treatment.
Out of an estimated 20,000 that need it. Al Jazeera’s Hind Khoudary reported on Friday from the headquarters of the Palestinian Red Crescent in Hanunis, where Palestinians have been gathering to leave Gaza to Egypt.
No one is informing Palestinians when does this crossing opens, when does it close, what is the process. And since Monday, since the Rafah crossing started operating, only 145 Palestinians along, patients along with their companions, left the Gaza Strip and only 98 were allowed to return. So the numbers are very little.
We’re talking about at least 20,000 Palestinians that need medical urgent, medical evacuation and the numbers that are leaving the Gaza Strip are very, very little. And also the process is very long, where even Palestinians returning are saying that they are taking very long hours waiting to cross back. Also, they’re being interrogated, they’re being handcuffed, blindfolded, and they’re also being harassed by the Israeli forces.
So this is not what Palestinians were looking forward to. They wanted real freedom of movement.
Israel returned 54 Palestinian bodies to Gaza this week. Al Jazeera’s Ibrahim Al Khalili filed this report on Saturday after speaking to some of the families attempting to identify missing loved ones. The fates of thousands of Palestinians from Gaza still remain unknown.
These blue bags carry the weight of lives lost. Forensic officials say Israel returned the bodies without names or identities. Now, they’re undergoing examination, prolonging the grief of families desperate for closure.”

“We’ve seen probably everything. There are a few surprises. Companies can spend up to $50 million just to create the spot.
If you include CGI, celebrities, you’re going to see tons of celebrities. And we’ve seen this as a trend for the last five years.
So it sounds like some things are definitely going to be the same this year. But over the past year at least, it seems like something’s been shifting, right? The amount of AI in advertising seems like it’s really having its moment.
So, Suzanne, I want to ask you a little bit about how AI companies themselves are getting in the Super Bowl this year.
Every year, there’s a big category that comes out, and this year, it’s going to be the AI Bowl, definitely. You’ve got Anthropic that’s making their Super Bowl debut, OpenAI is expected to air a spot, Microsoft is going to be pushing Co-Pilot, so that’s a lot.
Is it new that these companies are getting in on advertising like this?
Over the last two years, there’s basically been an ad battle that’s starting to form. They’re pouring billions of dollars into creating these companies, and now there’s a death match going on for users, because they have to make sure that users know which chatbot. Do you like Chat GPT?
Do you like Claude? And so it’s name recognition, and there’s nothing better for name recognition in today’s world than the Super Bowl Sunday. You’re going to get 100 million viewers typically, and you can look back in history, and companies have launched successfully year after year on the Super Bowl.”

Senior Israeli officials, including IDF chief Eyal Zamir, who visited Washington over the weekend, have been pushing the US to strike Iran, but US President Donald Trump is reluctant, Axios reports.
The report says that Zamir briefed Joint Chiefs chairman Gen. Dan Caine on Israel’s offensive and defensive plans in the event of war with Iran.
“It’s safe to say that nothing came out of that meeting to change his or the president’s mind on attacking Iran,” Axios quotes a US official as saying, referring to Caine and Trump.
“It’s really the Israelis who want a strike. The president is just not there,” the official says.
Another senior US official says Trump “really does not want to do it.”

Israel’s Olympic team walked into the stadium during the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics opening ceremony on Friday to a smattering of boos at what had otherwise been an upbeat and festive celebration of the global winter sports extravaganza.
The Israeli delegation, waving the country’s flag and smiling, marched into the San Siro stadium during the parade of participating countries with the boos quickly drowned out by the loud soundtrack.
In Cortina d’Ampezzo, where a simultaneous parade was held for competitors located in the mountain cluster, Israel’s athletes earned some cheers, while in Predazzo, site of the ski jumping venue, there were some boos heard.

The NFL fined Houston Texans linebacker Azeez Al-Shaair for writing “Stop the genocide” across his eye black, an apparent reference to Gaza, ESPN reported Sunday.
He drew the $11,593 fine for a violation of NFL uniform and equipment rules after displaying the message during last Monday’s 30-6 AFC wild-card win at Pittsburgh, per the report.
In spite of the fine, Al-Shaair could be seen wearing the same message in his eye black before Houston’s AFC divisional playoff game at the New England Patriots on Sunday. Later during the game, he was observed with the message removed.

star-of-hell says it all.
If there's a hell, we now know what it looks like and what it does. Blue and white. The Super Bowl makes me glad I'm not into sports. But I appreciate the athlete who took a stand and wrote a clear message, and the boos to the blue and white team who shouldn't be allowed to be there.
And this so-called "ceasefire" can't be called a joke when so many are being killed, suffering and treated so horribly. An abomination is more like it.
If the USA bombs Iran my sense is that that'll be the end of Israel. I hope Iranians don't have to put up with more senseless violence.
What a world we live in. When things could be so great, so beautiful, where Palestine could be restored with Palestinian minds and hands and reparations from Israel, the USA and all other countries who made this horror possible.
