President Donald Trumpโs son-in-law, Jared Kushner, has once again stepped into the geopolitical arena, landing in Egypt alongside White House Special Envoy Steve Witkoff on Wednesday to secure a ceasefire deal in Gaza.
The presence of Kushner โ who has largely stayed out of Trumpโs White House during the presidentโs second term and holds no official role in the administration after previously serving as a senior advisor to Trump โ signifies that the U.S. is โseriousโ about securing a deal between Hamas and Israel, bringing an end to the two-year war and returning all 48 hostages.
A White House official told Fox News Digital that Kushner, a โmajor architect of the Abraham Accords,โ is an โextremely trusted voice on Middle East policyโ and has been in contact with Witkoff throughout the Israel-Hamas negotiations over the last year.
The official said the White House is โgratefulโ for his expertise as it attempts to secure a deal and end the war this week, and remains โcautiously optimisticโ that an agreement will be reached.

Spainโs parliament voted Wednesday to formally establish an arms embargo against Israel in law, backing Prime Minister Pedro Sanchezโs effort to halt what he has characterized as genocide in Gaza.
The measure passed 178-169, solidifying restrictions that Sanchezโs government says have been in practice since the war began following Hamasโs attack on Israel on Oct. 7, 2023. The vote grants legal permanence to policies the administration claims were already being enforced.
The backing of Podemos, a far-left party holding four parliamentary seats, proved crucial to the leftist minority coalitionโs victory. The party had previously criticized the decree, and speculation about how its lawmakers would vote dominated political discussions in recent days.
Sanchez, among the most vocal critics of Israelโs military campaign in the Palestinian territory, announced the decree in September as part of a broader series of measures targeting Israelโs offensive, which has now entered its third year.
The legislation prohibits all exports of defense equipment, products or technology to Israel, as well as imports of such goods from the country. It also bars the transit of aviation fuel that could have military applications.
Additionally, the law forbids advertising products โcoming from illegal colonies in Gaza and the West Bank.โ The text includes a provision allowing the government to grant exceptions for dual-use defense equipment โif the application of the ban harmed general national interests.โ
