Directly facing the Israeli-imposed buffer zone, these orchards and the lands cultivated by other farmers in this area were often threatened by bulldozing by the Israeli occupation forces, which declared that any vegetation higher than 1 metre in the vicinity of their military ‘no-go’ area is a security threat, and must be flattened.
In total, Forensic Architecture has identified more than 2,000 agricultural sites, including farms and greenhouses, which have been destroyed since October 2023, often to be replaced with Israeli military earthworks.
This destruction has been most intense in the northern part of Gaza, where 90 percent of greenhouses were destroyed in the early stages of the ground invasion.

Once Israel was declared a Jewish state in May 1948, native trees (such as oaks, carobs, and hawthorns) and agricultural crops (olives, figs, and almonds) were systematically uprooted and replaced by European pine trees. These planted pines reduced biodiversity and harmed the local environment.Pines shed leaves that are acidic and prevent the growth of underbrush plants. These trees are also very susceptible to fire because of their resins. Indeed, fires are now a common occurrence in the areas in which they were planted. Trees, however, were not the only targets of Israel’s colonial practices. Natural resources, primarily water aquifers, have also been confiscated from the Palestinians. This often happened by deliberately building Israeli colonies on hilltops to ensure effective access to these resources and to maintain surveillance over the Palestinians.

Interesting music, vivid and disturbing artwork, informative and infuriating video. The chart detailing the destruction of Gaza's vegetation land reveals behavior that is cruel and insane. Another powerful post, Najwan! The atrocity and horrific brutality continues unabated. Such a tragedy, such a crime. Waatlemoen is an outstanding feature.
I can so imagine it. All of us have been heartbroken 💔
You and loved ones have seen and been through it first hand. We all stand with you and hope & pray Palestine frees all of us 🤲
