U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) commenced Operation Epic Fury, Feb. 28, at the direction of the President of the United States.

U.S. and partner forces began striking targets at 1:15 am ET to dismantle the Iranian regime’s security apparatus, prioritizing locations that posed an imminent threat. Targets included Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps command and control facilities, Iranian air defense capabilities, missile and drone launch sites, and military airfields.

“The President ordered bold action, and our brave Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, Marines, Guardians, and Coast Guardsmen are answering the call,” said Adm. Brad Cooper, commander of CENTCOM.

Following the initial wave of U.S. and partner strikes, CENTCOM forces successfully defended against hundreds of Iranian missile and drone attacks. There have been no reports of U.S. casualties or combat-related injuries. Damage to U.S. installations was minimal and has not impacted operations.

The first hours of the operation included precision munitions launched from air, land, and sea. Additionally, CENTCOM’s Task Force Scorpion Strike employed low-cost one-way attack drones for the first time in combat.

Operation Epic Fury involves the largest regional concentration of American military firepower in a generation.

Iran has targeted United States assets across the Gulf Arab states in retaliation for a huge joint attack on Iran by the US and Israel, sparking fears of a regional conflagration.

The Iranian government on Saturday confirmed its attacks on several targets, according to the Fars news agency, including Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates, where airbases with US assets are hosted.

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claimed all Israeli and US military targets in the Middle East have been struck “by the powerful blows of Iranian missiles”.

“This operation will continue relentlessly until the enemy is decisively defeated,” it said. All US assets throughout the region are considered legitimate targets for Iran’s army, it added.

Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister Hamid Ghanbari told Al Jazeera that Iran has the right to defend itself and regrets any humanitarian loss caused by the current military escalation.

Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said in a letter sent to the United Nations Security Council and Secretary-General Antonio Guterres that Iran would “continue ⁠to exercise its right of ⁠self-defence decisively and without ⁠hesitation until ⁠the aggression ceases fully and unequivocally”.

President Donald Trump’s social media venture is exploring a potential spinoff of its marquee business, Truth Social, in what would amount to a major pivot by the five-year-old company.

Trump Media & Technology Group said Friday that it is “engaged in ongoing discussions” over a potential plan that could place certain businesses like Truth Social into a new publicly traded company. Any such spinoff would happen after Trump Media closes its $6 billion deal to combine with the nuclear fusion company TAE Technologies, according to a statement.

Current investors in Trump Media — whose largest shareholder is Trump himself — would receive stock in the new Truth Social entity.

“Last year, the US experienced something that hasn’t happened in almost a century. Net negative migration. More people moved out than moved in.

The Brookings Institution, a think tank, puts the net loss at around 150,000 people. The Trump administration has said this shows the effects of its immigration crackdown with 675,000 deportations. But there’s also something else going on.

America’s own citizens are leaving in record numbers. A Wall Street Journal analysis of data from 15 countries showed that at least 180,000 Americans left too. Joe Parkinson, who leads the journal’s World Enterprise team, joins me now from London.

Joe, I want to start with how we actually know that this is happening. Does the US government measure the number of citizens who are moving elsewhere?

The government hasn’t kept accurate data on that since around about the Eisenhower administration. What we needed to do was basically look at the other end of the telescope. So instead of looking to the US government, go to every country, find the data, pull the data to try and create a picture of how many Americans were actually moving abroad.

And as we went through that data, a historical pattern began to emerge.

When did this outflow of Americans start, really?

This is not a new story entirely. What’s changed to magnify the numbers in recent years really are big shifts in technology and things like remote work that you can now work for an American company but be based in Lisbon, in Bali, Mexico City. That wasn’t really possible, you know, five years ago, let alone 20 years ago.

The kind of Americans that are doing this has really changed. Once upon a time it used to be very well credentialed people perhaps on assignments for blue chip companies or retirees. Now it’s people of all stripes, young families, students, single people.”
