So I had a different kind of weekend this past one… as opposed to my general symmetry of gym, digital activism, crying and fasting (Holy month of Ramadan y’all 🤠) I went to Austin TX for a day…a very very special day, of which I am about to break into some story time for you (your welcome 🤓)
So buckle in, get comfortable, and let me take you down memory lane…my memories that is, from this past Saturday March 16 2024
The event in question was the Falasteen 🇵🇸 Street Museum, and in particular importance/interest to me was the below…
So I braved some unsavory Texas weather and downpour, and drove my little butt (seriously that thing is shrinking way too much even for my liking, just proving hard to keep an appetite during an ongoing genocide and all…) to Austin Texas! To see Paul and Greg! And boy did I!! For those that don’t know me, I continue to suffer from geospatial disorientation and the profound inability to follow directions even remotely correctly. And so without fail, as soon as I parked and proceeded to walk to Austin City Hall, I immediately misunderstood what my GPS was instructing me to do, and was inadvertently drifting further away from the landmark I intended to visit… But! To my bewildered elation, I bumped into two familiar faces, the exact two beautiful faces I came all the way to see and hear!!
Exhibit A !
They pointed me in the right direction after I forced hugs on both of them, AND made them pose for above said picture 🤓 (Am sure one day they will look upon this memento as fondly as I do ☺️)
I was an hour early because that’s just another personal trait I exhibit, I credit that attribute solely to Baba who embedded within me very early on, a real sense of ‘if you’re not early, you’re late’ kind of philosophy, which is super great by the way, highly recommend it.. So now I just show up to things much earlier than people actually intend for me to do so, and that makes for either ‘stimulating’ conversation and/or creative personal measures on my behalf on how to make time disappear… Thanks a lot Baba, because being a Palestinian refugee wasn’t hard enough 🙃… Jokes aside, I really was eager to meet the kindhearted people behind the event, and those that would be attending it. And I did. I met some AMAZING people, and forged a substantial set of new friendships ♥️
I also got to speak to Paul and Greg in more detail (Yay me!) My primal fixation in all honesty was on the Irish man Paul 🇮🇪. And if he is unfamiliar to you, I ask that you immediately stop whatever you’re doing and correct that shit asap! He is a brave soul, a real leader, and a man actively trying to save us 🇵🇸… And for that, I will forever be eternally grateful (Shukran 🙏)
With that said, let me help jump start that education for those that require it… you can thank me later, or better yet, lean in, help save our babies (pretty please?)
Paul is the founder of Tech for Palestine who bravely stood up against the atrocities being (and still being) committed in Palestine with his article simply titled I can’t sleep back in December of 2023. He faced unfortunate (albeit trite, cliché and predictable) outlash… but regardless remained steadfast in standing up for humanity… a heavily underrated quality these days…💔
Okay, now back to Austin and the event! The organizing superstars ⭐️ behind it all were the Austin for Palestine Coalition who curated an abundance of content to educate, inform and entertain the masses. They did so with their panel discussion and printed literature, local artists and exhibits ♥️
I would like to end this post by sharing the rest of my memories in picture form, because 1. Am getting a little tired and 2. Substack has politely informed me am nearing ‘email length limit’… Okie dokie 🫡 Anyways, I’m a busy gal and I’ve got things to accomplish before I break fast (sharply) at 7:38 pm CST tonight…
Enjoy! …And more importantly, please help try and save our babies? The ones that haven’t been killed off already you know?
Thank you, shukran, and until we meet again…(i.e. I think of clever fun words to tickle your pickle) Ciao 👋
