Unmarked graves pepper the little ground available for them in Gaza, the only indication these are cemeteries are breeze blocks, used as head stones, and a serial number.

That number is someone's daughter, mother, brother, friend but their identities remain unknown.

Thousands of Palestinians remain missing, many lost under the rubble but with only one digger and no DNA testing facilities or cold storage the Forensic Team at Al Shifa hospital have no choice but to bury them without a name but with a number which references the little they know about the body.

There is hope one day they can be identified but that hope is a long way off.

“Well, speaking of these flotillas, we just want to run through the brief history of them. Israel actually intensified its blockade of Gaza back in 2007 when Hamas came to power, restricting the entry of goods, even water and electricity. The following year, flotillas began delivering humanitarian aid by sea.

It was the only year that boats successfully reached the strip. Then in 2010, the Israeli army intercepted the Gaza Freedom Flotilla. Soldiers stormed a Turkish ship and killed 10 activists.

More flotillas set sail between 2011 and 2018, trying to break Israel’s siege. None were successful. Then efforts intensified again in 2024 during Israel’s genocide and the closure of all entry points, which led to a famine.

All were intercepted and forced to turn back, which is where we find ourselves today. Dan, you’ve obviously covered many of these flotillas and obviously what’s happened in Gaza over the last several years. The flotillas, have they become a ritual that both sides know the choreography to at this point in time?”

“In an exclusive, the journal has learned that Russia and China have, in recent years, expanded their intelligence operations in Cuba. They’ve invested in electronic eavesdropping facilities used to spy on US military sites in Florida. The intelligence assessment comes at a time when the Trump administration has declared Cuba an unusual and extraordinary threat to US national security.

WSJ national security reporter Alex Ward joins me now from Washington. Alex, Chinese and Russian presence in Cuba isn’t exactly new. The journal has reported on this before.

How significant is this increase that we just learned about?

It matters in large part because it shows that the Chinese and the Russians are investing more in that capability and that could give them a greater shot at collecting information, mostly unclassified communications from US. Southern Command and US. Central Command, which are based in Florida.

We should also note that, of course, President Trump has some personal properties in Florida, although no indication necessarily that they’re picking up stuff from there. And while Washington is known for a while that the Chinese and Russians have set up these sites in Cuba, the fact that they’re expanding them and improving them and setting more personnel just sort of fuels the Trump administration’s public case for potentially dislodging the regime in Havana.

What do all of the countries involved here say about this reporting?

When we spoke to the Chinese embassy, they were like, effectively, hey, the Chinese-Cuban relationship is already out in the open. The Russians have denounced the US tough stance towards Cuba.

And Cuban officials deny that the island serves as a base for American enemies or threatens the US. So where does the US go from here?”

Riyad Mansour, the Permanent Observer of the State of Palestine to the United Nations, delivered an emotional address before the United Nations Security Council on the ongoing war in Gaza, calling on the international community to take urgent action to end the violence and protect Palestinian civilians. Speaking during the debate on the humanitarian crisis, Mansour said that thousands of innocent people, including women and children, continue to suffer under devastating conditions caused by the conflict.
