π₯ Killings and destruction continue on a large scale in Gaza: AJE correspondent
Al Jazeera English | Sep 29, 2024
The killings and destruction in Gaza continue at a large scale. A school serving as an evacuation centre was attacked, one of many across Gaza, including both private and UNRWA schools, sheltering hundreds of displaced families. These centres, intended to provide safety, have been repeatedly targeted by Israeli attacks, with nine bombed this month alone. This recent attack in western Beit Lahiya killed at least four, though up to 300 families were sheltering there, so the toll may rise. Many also rely on these centres for basic food and supplies amid severe shortages in Gaza.

I see less,

every day,
I wake to this π
π₯ Can a war in the Middle East be averted? | Inside Story
Al Jazeera English | Sep 29, 2024
βNetanyahu needs to be in a situation where he said, yes, he can say October the 7th happened, but look at what I've done since then. I've made Israel more secure, more safe, more prosperous than ever before. And that can be talking to his constituents on the far right in terms of settling the West Bank. But it can also be in terms of taking out Nasrallah.
For Netanyahu, the book stops at Tehran and the Iranian regime. He sees all of this as tentacles on an octopus. I think he's going to try and go for a headshot.
He's had victory after victory after victory. This is not the same Netanyahu we saw previously, who, yes, despite all of his intentions, despite all of the nasty things he says, is a pragmatist at heart. This is a Netanyahu who has basically said, I need to stay in power, and it doesn't matter how many people I have to kill to make that happen.
That can be Arabs, but that can also be Jewish Israelis leaving the hostages in Gaza to rot because at the end of the day, a ceasefire will bring down his government. An escalation that drags in Tehran won't.β
A topic of interest I wanted to share more videos on. Israelβs weaponization, transformation, digitization, killer chatbots, chic hot bodsβ¦

Al Jazeera English | May 6, 2023
βItself is sort of re-entrenching the form of apartheid that we've been witnessing over the many decades. It's creating a sort of digital racial hierarchy, a microcosm, one of the most intense expressions of Israeli apartheid in the West Bank. Managing the occupation of millions of people over more than five decades is a vast and costly enterprise that relies on dominance and intelligence gathering. According to one former General, Israel has become the world champions of occupation, turning it in his words, into an art form.β

βThey give you this impression that you're the best of the best, you're told you're defending your country and only select people know the things that you know. And it's kind of mind-boggling how intimate you are with people that are total strangers, sometimes very important people, so it's hard to resist this sense of superiority and you have a lot of power for an 18 year old. You can start eavesdropping on someone just because you decided to, you can pass on his name and change his life, so it has this intoxicating feeling of power.β
π₯ Israel turns to a new AI system in war on Gaza | The Listening Post
Al Jazeera English | Dec 9, 2023
βAs one source told +972 magazine nothing happens by accident. When a 3-year-old girl is killed in a home in Gaza, it's because someone in the Army decided it wasn't a big deal for her to be killed. Everything is intentional. We know exactly how much collateral damage there is in every home. When the gospel system was rolled out, it was said to be one of the state-of-the-art AI systems that would allow the military to pinpoint targets quickly and accurately. It's allowed the Army to essentially target at a mass scale. What soldiers have described as a mass assassination machine, which means that they're not just pinpointing military infrastructure, they're bombing civilian homes.β

IDF claim this new network of surveillance systems is a more humanitarian form of military control. Palestinians, however, liken it to a dystopian nightmare.
Since 2018, the cyberespionage firm has worked closely with Israelβs foreign office, whose practice of βspyware diplomacyβ exported spyware to autocratic regimes and liberal democracies alike. In the years since,Β Pegasus softwareΒ has been found on some 50,000 phones worldwide. Recent reports alleged the United States discussed purchasing the technology. But after allegations that the technology was used to hack the phones of journalists, human rights defenders, and opposition politicians in mid-2021, the U.S. Commerce Department placed NSO Group on a blacklist.
Other, less notorious Israeli firms are also spreading their technologies from the occupied Palestinian territories to contexts worldwide. The Israeli facial recognition firm Oosto (formerly AnyVision) outfitted checkpoints across the West Bank withΒ biometric scannersΒ in 2019 and then began exporting these technologies abroad a few months later, where they are now used asΒ facial recognition camerasΒ at the entrances of malls, sports stadiums, and office complexes in 43 countries.
AI in societies that have no morals is never going to be a good thing.
Looking into the values they spew is crazy making. "I don't want to go to jail, so instead I'll commit genocide, war crimes and international law."
Thanks for posting, Najwan. Take good care.
