Started this piece around 5 am waiting on a large metal bird.
Finishing it now aboard its sturdy contoured back.
Snug in my window seat next to a seemingly nice-ish couple.
Trip for those curious ⬇️
I first heard about Shireen this morning listening to Al Jazeera’s | The Take podcast. She was a dual Palestinian-American national killed in the occupied West Bank, May 11 2022, by an Israeli soldier. An Al Jazeera journalist for 25 years. She was 51 years old…

Shireen Abu Akleh: Al Jazeera reporter killed by Israeli forces
They (🇮🇱) did say sorry a year later…
Just (everything) short of actual tangible accountability, remorse, punishment and/or justice (of course)

The Arab Center Washington DC held a Memorial Symposium in Shireen’s honor Thursday May 9 2024, and hosted several expert panels on the challenges of covering Palestine.

Two years after the May 11 Israeli military killing of Palestinian American journalist Shireen Abu Akleh, no one has been held accountable for her death.
The Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) is now calling on the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation to release a timeline for the conclusion of its now 18-month investigation into the killing, on the International Criminal Court to investigate the case — as the Abu Akleh family and her employer, Al Jazeera, have requested — and on Israel to cooperate.
Last November, the U.S. Department of Justice notified Israel of the FBI investigation, and Israel said it would not cooperate with the probe. The FBI has not publicly released any findings nor has the investigation led to any statements of responsibility or arrests.

The CPJ published a report May 9 2023 titled ‘Deadly Pattern’ ⬇️
Deadly Pattern: 20 journalists died by Israeli military fire in 22 years. No one has been held accountable.
All I can think to myself is it’s a darn good thing we have a (whole) official calendar day dedicated to such things…
Because well then, gee whiz, we’d otherwise surely be fucked… Right?

Right…
I remember when this happened because the footage of the Israeli cops attacking the funeral was so shocking. https://www.cnn.com/2022/06/17/middleeast/shireen-abu-akleh-funeral-israeli-police-investigation-intl/index.html
thank you. I will never forget what the IDF did to her funeral, attacking the pall bearers.
