“For example, in Syria, the Israelis benefited from never ending war there. I always maintained that the devil you know is better than the devil you don’t. And that Bashar al-Assad was no threat to Israel.
But then you put the former co-founder of ISIS in charge, a man who was a long time member of Al Qaeda in charge. He immediately begins pogrom against minority communities, whether they’re Druze or Christian or what have you. And that’s supposed to be better for whom?
In Iraq, the same thing. The Israelis were threatened by a central government led by Saddam Hussein. They benefited from chaos.
Their view was if Iraqis are busy killing each other, they’re not going to be a threat to Israel. They won’t threaten to kill Israelis. We saw the same thing happen in Libya.
Now we’re seeing the same thing happen in Iran. I think that you’re exactly right that the Israelis really want, at the end of this, a failed state. They want to see decades where Iranian is pitted against Iranian and they just simply take years and years to kill each other.”

“Executive Order 12333, which was signed by President Ford in 1975, as one of its provisions, banned assassinations by the CIA. The CIA was out just killing everybody it didn’t like until 1975. President Ford put an end to that.
12333 was amended by Ronald Reagan to allow targeted killings of any person posing a clear and present danger to the United States, an American citizen or an American installation. 12333 was again amended just in the days after 9-11 to allow the CIA to assassinate opponents at its discretion. And so, skyrocket it did to the point where the agency set up teams, formal offices, you know, with an administrative structure even, you know, a career panel, a promotion panel, where your job was to fly around the world and kill people.
And then you would get a fitness report that, yes, he killed these people and he missed this one and he couldn’t find that one. And so, we’ll pass him over for promotion this time, we’ll promote him next time, if he kills the next five people. I mean, this is the craziness that we adopted at the CIA post 9-11.”

The Internal Revenue Service paid Palantir $1.8 million last year to improve a custom tool designed to help the tax agency identify the “highest-value” cases for audits, collection of unpaid taxes, and potential criminal investigations, according to documents WIRED obtained via public record request.
When the contract was signed, the IRS said it was using “more than 100 business systems and 700 methods,” built over the course of “decades” to select cases in which people may have incorrectly reported their taxes or owe the IRS money. As identifying potential tax discrepancies became more complex, the agency said its systems grew increasingly inefficient, and it needed to find a solution.
“This fragmented landscape can lead to a number of undesirable outcomes including but not limited to duplication of effort and cost, poor understanding of gaps in the coverage, and suboptimal case selection,” the IRS wrote in a document obtained by WIRED outlining the scope of the contract.
The custom tool that Palantir built to address the problem, dubbed the “Selection and Analytic Platform,” or SNAP, is designed to help the IRS streamline how it identifies potential fraud cases. For now, the software is only being used as part of a pilot program, according to the documents. Palantir and the IRS did not respond to requests for comment.

The amount of untaxed wealth hidden offshore by the richest 0.1 percent exceeds the entire wealth of the poorest half of humanity (4.1 billion people), reveals new Oxfam analysis published today ahead of the 10th anniversary of the Panama Papers. The findings show that, a decade later, the super-rich continue to exploit offshore systems to evade taxes and conceal assets, highlighting the urgent need for coordinated international action to tax extreme wealth and end the use of tax havens.
Oxfam estimates that $3.55 trillion in untaxed wealth was stashed offshore in tax havens and unreported accounts in 2024. This sum exceeds the GDP of France and is more than twice the combined GDP of the world’s 44 least developed countries.
The richest 0.1 percent holds approximately 80 percent of all untaxed offshore wealth, or around $2.84 trillion. Within this tiny group, the ultra-wealthiest 0.01 percent holds roughly half ($1.77 trillion).
“The Panama Papers pulled back the veil on a shadow world where the richest quietly move immense fortunes beyond the reach of taxes and scrutiny. Ten years on, the super-rich are still sequestering oceans of wealth in offshore vaults,” said Christian Hallum, Oxfam International’s Tax Lead.

Israeli forces destroyed 17 surveillance cameras linked to the United Nations peacekeepers' main headquarters in southern Lebanon in 24 hours, a UN security official told AFP on Saturday.
Israeli forces have hit the UN Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) multiple times since invading the country in response to Hezbollah fire in early March, killing and wounding several peacekeepers.
The official, who requested anonymity, said “17 of the headquarters’ cameras have been destroyed by the Israeli army” in the coastal town of Naqoura.
UNIFIL spokeswoman Kandice Ardiel told AFP on Saturday that “the cameras appear to have been destroyed by some kind of laser”.
She added that “[Israeli] soldiers are present in Naqoura and have been undertaking massive demolitions of buildings in the village this week”.
Earlier this week, Ardiel told AFP that “not only have these demolitions destroyed civilian homes and businesses, but the strength of the blasts have caused damage to UNIFIL’s headquarters”.
Three Indonesian peacekeepers from the UN force have been killed in two separate incidents over the past week.

Of course she does in these barbaric times.
Will we be able to dry those tears?
Will Israel ever be held to account, or the USA?
Will they be stopped?
We can hope and pray and do all we can to make this happen.
Thanks, as always, Najwan, for doing your bit.
