A senior member of OpenAI’s robotics team has resigned, citing concerns about how the company moved forward with a recently announced partnership with the U.S. Department of Defense.
Caitlin Kalinowski, who served as a member of technical staff focused on robotics and hardware, posted on social media that she had stepped down on “principle” after the company revealed plans to make its AI systems available inside secure Defense Department computing systems.
The agreement is part of a broader push by the U.S. government to incorporate advanced AI tools into national security work, a trend that has sparked debate across the tech industry about oversight and acceptable uses.
In public posts explaining her decision, Kalinowski wrote: “I resigned from OpenAI. I care deeply about the Robotics team and the work we built together. This wasn’t an easy call.”
She said policy guardrails around certain AI uses were not sufficiently defined before OpenAI announced an agreement with the Pentagon. “AI has an important role in national security,” Kalinowski wrote. “But surveillance of Americans without judicial oversight and lethal autonomy without human authorization are lines that deserved more deliberation than they got.”

US military commanders have been invoking extremist Christian rhetoric about biblical “end times” to justify involvement in the Iran war to troops, according to complaints made to a watchdog group.
The Military Religious Freedom Foundation (MRFF) says it has received more than 200 complaints from service members across all branches of the armed forces, including the marines, air force and space force.
One complainant, identified as a noncommissioned officer (NCO) in a unit that could be deployed “at any moment to join” operations against Iran, told MRFF in a complaint viewed by the Guardian that their commander had “urged us to tell our troops that this was ‘all part of God’s divine plan’ and he specifically referenced numerous citations out of the Book of Revelation referring to Armageddon and the imminent return of Jesus Christ”.
“He said that ‘President Trump has been anointed by Jesus to light the signal fire in Iran to cause Armageddon and mark his return to Earth’”, the NCO added.
The NCO’s complaint was filed on behalf of 15 troops, including 11 Christians, one Muslim person and one Jewish person. The complaint was first shared by MRFF with Jonathan Larsen, an independent journalist.

It is the thirteenth day of the holy month of Ramadan, and Palestinian roads in the West Bank are almost empty at sunset as people break their fast. Since the U.S.-Israeli war on Iran started last Saturday, the Israeli army has closed all checkpoints between Palestinian towns and cities, paralyzing movement.
The road closures came amid unprecedented economic pressure. Around 160,000 Palestinians who worked as daily laborers in Israel or Israeli settlements before October 7, 2023, have had their work permits revoked by Israel. In addition, the Palestinian Authority (PA), which is the largest employer in the West Bank, hasn’t been able to pay full salaries for two years, since Israel continues to withhold customs funds that it collects on behalf of the PA in accordance with the 1993 Oslo Accords.
But this Ramadan, Palestinians are also facing a new surge in settler violence, crippling their access to what remains of their lands, largely away from international attention.

It is the seventh day of the U.S.-Israeli war on Iran, and Israel is escalating attacks on Lebanon after ordering the entire population of southern Lebanon to flee. This comes as Israel’s far-right Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich threatened to turn areas of Lebanon into another Gaza in a video shared on social media Thursday. “The word on everyone’s mouths here is ethnic cleansing,” says Lylla Younes, an investigative journalist speaking with Democracy Now! from Beirut. “People are basically fleeing north with nowhere to go. Shelters are filling up rapidly. People are sleeping on the pavement in the winter nights.”
Human rights lawyer Omar Shakir, the new executive director of DAWN, has urged Iran to give the International Criminal Court jurisdiction over apparent crimes committed by the U.S. and Israel in strikes on schools and hospitals. “There is more and more evidence emerging every single day of grave war crimes being carried out by the United States and Israel,” he says. “The Israeli government, because of impunity, is emboldened across the region. And unless we see a strong response from states that are willing to use the tools of accountability, … the risk to civilians across the region will continue to grow.”

It’s been one week since the attack on the Minab elementary school in Iran. This attack was on a Saturday, the same day US-Israeli attacks were launched against the country.
This attack led to the killing of at least 168 people, and the majority of those killed were girls aged between seven and 12, according to local officials.
Now calls are growing for an independent investigation into the bombing of the Shajrah Tayebeh girls’ school, with UN experts denouncing it as “a grave assault on children.”
Both the US and Israeli militaries have acknowledged this attack, and for their part
US investigators probing the bombing believe it is most likely that the US military was responsible for the strike, though they have not reached a final conclusion.
Additionally, and this is according to exclusive reporting by Middle East Eye, the girls’ school was hit by what’s known as a “double-tap” strike, meaning the site was hit twice, with the second missile striking after the first and killing survivors who had sought shelter.

I keep hoping that all this resistance somehow stops the killing and destruction in Gaza and the West Bank.
