“Now, does that give the United States the right to invade the country and grab the guy? That’s something that I’m going to let academics write their books about. But it has really serious implications.
If you read the indictment that the Southern District of New York issued against Nicolas Maduro and Celia Flores, his wife, you could probably use that same indictment against any prime minister or president in the world, of any country where there’s drug trafficking going on inside the country.
Ambassador, if another power were to carry out a similar operation elsewhere in the world, would the US accept it?
We would be outraged. Let’s see if Putin were to send an operation in to grab Zelensky, if the Chinese were to send in an operation to grab the president of Taiwan, of course we would. And that’s the politics of it.
I mean, I like that you started with his national security strategy. I mean, what Trump was talking about in the press conference yesterday was essentially dividing the world up into spheres of influence, where the strongest power, the United States in the Western Hemisphere, has the right, citing the Monroe Doctrine from 1820, to do whatever we want in our sphere of influence. And to me, that’s just absolutely, it’s nuts.
The implementation of it, since they took Maduro out of the country, has been that we’re going to run the country, and that we’re going to do it through Delcey Rodriguez, Maduro’s vice president, and keep the top structure of Chavismo in place. I mean, that’s just, it makes no sense.”

The Israeli army has launched more attacks into parts of Gaza outside its direct military control, despite the ceasefire deal mediated by the United States in October.
At least three Palestinians were killed on Sunday in separate Israeli attacks in Khan Younis, medical sources told Al Jazeera.
They included a 15-year-old boy, a fisherman, and a third man shot dead east of Khan Younis.
In the central part of the besieged enclave, Israeli fire injured several people east of the Bureij refugee camp.
In Gaza City to the north, Israeli forces continued to demolish homes and civilian infrastructure within the mostly destroyed Tuffah neighbourhood.
The Israeli army confirmed it was destroying more infrastructure in northern Gaza, but claimed that the target was “terrorist infrastructure above and below ground”, including tunnels in Beit Lahiya.
Israeli drones also dropped explosives on several homes in eastern Gaza City. The Shujayea and Zeitoun neighbourhoods of Gaza City, which have also been extensively attacked during more than two years of Israel’s genocidal war, were hit with artillery shelling.

As Gaza enters the bleakest period of winter, children are dying of hypothermia, drowning in flooded camps and burning to death as their families try to cook in flimsy tents. Israel destroyed nine out of 10 homes over more than two years of war. Camped amid the ruins, Palestinians struggle against strong winds, heavy rain and freezing temperatures. Aid deliveries resumed following the ceasefire, staving off the famine that had taken hold in parts of the territory, but remain wholly insufficient: 1.6 million people face acute food insecurity. The sanitation infrastructure has collapsed.
The UK, Canada, Japan, France and six other nations have jointly warnedthat the situation is catastrophic. Yet Israel is now deepening one of the world’s worst humanitarian crises. On Tuesday, it announced that it is deregistering 37 NGOs active in Gaza. They must cease all operations there by 1 March unless they meet its new “security and transparency standards” – including by disclosing the personal details of staff. Many of the listed groups are among the best-regarded in their field, including Oxfam, Médecins Sans Frontières and the Norwegian Refugee Council.
Volker Türk, the UN human rights chief, was right to describe this as outrageous – and as part of a pattern of unlawful restrictions on humanitarian access. Israeli NGOs have warned that it breaks the principles of independence and neutrality for humanitarian organisations.
Israel says that the measures are necessary to prevent NGOs employing staff with links to extremist groups. It has repeatedly claimed that Hamas has infiltrated aid organisations and exploited international aid, while providing little evidence. Given the many relief workers arbitrarily detained and killed since the war began, the demand for staff lists has prompted alarm. Israel has reportedly refused requests for meetings on the issue.
Meanwhile, as Israel bars life-saving supplies such as tent poles and generators from humanitarian shipments, claiming they could be exploited for military purposes, it allows traders to bring such items into the territory. While ordinary Palestinians suffer, players inside and outside the territory profit financially and politically. US officers in Israel have reportedly urged that key items, including tent poles, be removed from the blacklist – without success.

The Commission of Detainees’ and Ex-Detainees’ Affairs has warned of the spread of scabies among Palestinian detainees inside Ofer prison, considering that the Israel Prison Service (IPS) is deliberately practicing medical neglect and denying detainees treatment, in addition to the poor quality and scarcity of personal hygiene supplies provided to them.
The commission explained that detainee Abdullah Khalil Abu Atiya, 26, who has been held since August 12, 2025, in Section 26 of Ofer prison, is suffering from sores and red patches on his scalp that cause severe itching, as a result of the lack of hygiene materials and insufficient access to bathing.
The commission noted that the disease has spread almost completely throughout the section. The detainee told the commission’s lawyer that the prison administration refuses to provide any treatment to infected prisoners.
In a related case, detainee Ali Dawood Rayan, 19, from the town of Beit Duqqu northwest of Jerusalem, who has been detained since June 3, 2024, contracted the disease for the second time due to medical neglect and poor hygiene conditions. The commission’s lawyer reported that his clothes were extremely dirty because the prison administration does not provide extra clothing, and that cleaning supplies are insufficient to wash detainees’ personal clothes. Rayan is the sole breadwinner for his family after his father, Dawood Rayan, was killed on November 3, 2022, during an Israeli military raid on their village.
The lawyer also reported that detainee Ali Nasser Al-Faqih, 24, from the town of Qatana northwest of Jerusalem, who has been detained since May 6, 2024, in Section 11, Room 1, lost hearing in his left ear after being beaten by the “Keter” force. Despite this, the prison administration refused to provide him with treatment, confiscated his clothes, and left him with only limited clothing supplied by the Red Cross.
The commission affirmed that these practices reflect a deliberate policy by the IPS to deprive detainees of their basic rights, threatening their lives and exacerbating their suffering inside prisons.

What is wrong with these people? Israel, the USA and all its powerful allies are morally and emotionally insane.
It's beyond comprehension.
The whole world is seeing what thugs these people are. And I think many are responding accordingly. It can't go on this way; I just hope the people in Palestine get some relief, and that other countries aren't attacked.
I can't imagine how exceptional Trump, Netanyahu and their ilk imagine themselves to be. Meanwhile, so many of us wouldn't want them anywhere near us.
Najwan, bless your beautiful heart. I hope you're keeping well, and that you get a good night's sleep.
