On a searing summer day, Israeli settlers splashed in a West Bank pool created by siphoning off water that had irrigated Palestinian crops, one of many seizures of water resources across βthe occupied territory.
The spring served as a lifeline for the nearby village of Fasayil in the fertile Jordan Valley, where Palestinians have relied on it for generations for food, employment and to βsupplement irregular Israeli supplies to their domestic taps.
βOur water supply remains cut off to this day, depriving us of the water we depend on for our homes, our livelihoods, and our agricultural land,β said Saad Nemer, who farms the land.
Israeli settlers seized his irrigation pipeline in June, channeling the water to an ancient pool in an archaeological site. Soon after, settlers advertised it as an Israeli tourist attraction and Israelβs far-right finance minister pledged financial support.
βThey are now in the process of developing a recreational park around the pool,β Nemer βsaid.
The seizure of the spring at Fasayil is part of a pattern that Palestinians say is designed to make their lives in the West Bank untenable. Israeli settlers have attacked at βleast 160 water and sanitation sites across the Palestinian territory this year, United Nations data shows.
Nemerβs greenhouses and fields would normally be full of eggplant, zucchini and watermelons, β but without water he has not been able to plant in the scorched land.

The Kennedy Center board on Thursday voted to again attach President Donald Trumpβs name to the performing arts center, Rep. Joyce Beatty (D-Ohio) and two other people with knowledge of the vote said, its latest attempt to honor the president after a judge blocked an effort to rename the Kennedy Center after him in May.
The board β which is mostly Trump loyalists after the president dismissed Democratic-appointed members on the historically bipartisan body β voted to βhonor the Presidentβs contribution with an inscribed recognition on the building,β with the new signage reading: βThe John F. Kennedy Memorial Center for the Performing Arts, Restored and Renovated by President Donald J. Trump.β
The board also voted Thursday to shutter the main building for two years, the culmination of Trumpβs long-term effort to make sweeping changes to the performing arts institution.
βThis morningβs decision to close the Center and the surprise agenda item to put Donald Trumpβs name back on the building was more of the same,β Beatty, an ex-officio board member, said in a statement that came after the initial publication of this report. βThis latest development is a transparent effort to circumvent the Courtβs ruling, and flies in the face of the statutes that Congress passed. I will continue to fight for this treasured national monument.β

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has referred to the United Kingdom as the βIslamic Republic of Britainβ, a dig at one of Israelβs historically closest European allies.
Netanyahu made the remark on the Israeli podcast Melech Blitzer Haim that aired on Thursday as he objected to British media coverage of Israel.
As an example, Netanyahu pointed to British writer Randolph Churchill, who he praised for his βpositiveβ coverage of Israel during the 1967 Six-Day War. Netanyahu then added sarcastically: βGo find that in Britain today, which you could call the Islamic Republic of Britain,β according to translated comments published by Israeli media.
Later in the podcast, Netanyahu appeared to reference comments made by JD Vance in 2022 that the UK may constitute the first nuclear-armed βIslamist countryβ.
βSomeone said the first Islamic republic with nuclear weapons will be the Islamic Republic of Britain,β Netanyahu said.
βWe are making sure there wonβt be another one here, in Iran,β he added.
I wonder where all the loathing of Israel and the American ruling classes goes. People are rightfully seething with rage over the horrible things they're doing.
