An eight-monthold baby has just died from hypothermia in Gaza. Another avoidable tragedy. Another number to add to the more than 20,000 children killed in direct conflict and tens of thousands that have lost their lives, limbs and futures in a brutal two-year conflict.
The ceasefire agreement in October and subsequent peace efforts offer a glimmer of hope to the estimated two million people that remain in Gaza. But as storms and floods lash the Strip in a harsh winter, that promise is curdling. Israeli authorities are not just maintaining their blockade on aid but entrenching it by seeking to ban many international NGOs delivering aid. This will have a serious impact on essential services and put lives at imminent risk.
The ceasefire plan called for 600 humanitarian aid trucks to enter Gaza daily, the bare minimum needed to help families start the process of recovery and rebuilding. Over the last twelve weeks, an average of just 120 trucks a day have been entering through the UN-led humanitarian system. Meanwhile, tents, medical supplies, and other essentials sit in warehouses a few miles away from the people that need them.
This is not inevitable. The first three weeks of the pause in hostilities in January 2025 saw a dramatic surge with 10,000 aid trucks entering at a rate of almost 500 a day. We saw how aid can be delivered effectively and at scale in Gaza. It was not a question of logistics, but of political will.

π₯ (Resumed) The situation in the Middle East, including the Palestinian question - Security Council, 10098th meeting
For 250 glorious years, our Nation has been sustained by a simple yet powerful truth: The American people β not bureaucrats, politicians, or left-wing activists β have the God-given right to secure their own destiny. This National School Choice Week, we reaffirm this sacred principle, and we renew our commitment to empowering every American parent with the freedom to forge their familyβs β and our Nationβs β future.
Tragically, for decades, disastrous Federal education policy led to record-low reading and math scores and out-of-control Government spending. Americaβs Golden Age begins in the classroom. For that reason, I have made it a top priority to expand educational freedom and once again put children and parents first.
My Administration is fighting every day to ensure that universal school choice is recognized as a right for every family. No student should ever be trapped in a failing school, and parents deserve more choices, not fewer. Guided by this vision, we are working to guarantee that every child β regardless of where they live β has access to a world-class education and a chance to achieve the American Dream.
Last July, I proudly signed into law the historic One Big Beautiful Bill, which for the first time in American history, creates a nationwide tax credit program to make education more affordable for families. Any taxpayer can reduce what they owe the Government by contributing to a scholarship-granting organization and American families can use these scholarships to select the education that best fits their needs and values.
The One Big Beautiful Bill also makes education more affordable by giving every American newborn a Trump Account, which makes it easier for families to use 529 accounts for elementary and high school, not just college.
I also signed an Executive Order last year directing the Department of Education to issue guidance on how States can use Federal funding formulas to support their K-12 scholarship programs and directing the Secretary of Education to prioritize school choice programs in the Departmentβs grant programs. I have also ordered the Secretary of Education to facilitate the closure of the Department of Education, which will ultimately save billions of dollars and allow States to determine their own education policy.
To further defend the American parent, my Administration is bringing the sinister βDiversity, Equity, and Inclusionβ agenda to a screeching halt and replacing it with a system based on the fundamental principle of merit. We are proudly eliminating Federal funding for schools that permit discriminatory treatment and anti-American indoctrination. We are bringing common sense back to our classrooms and once again teaching our children to love their country and honor our history.

On the early morning of September 2, 1945, the veranda deck to starboard of the USS Missouri anchored in Tokyo Bay, was prepared for the ceremony. The bay was populated with over 250 vessels; the majority were American, but others represented the nations that fought against the Japanese. Dignitaries representing the Emperor of Japan, along with the Allied Powers gathered together, and the formal surrender documents were signed on board the USS Missouri, designating the day as the official Victory over Japan Day (V-J Day). V-J Day was especially momentous as the gruesome and exhausting second world war was officially over.
World War II was, arguably, the most significant and influential event of the twentieth century. The devastation is almost incalculable: total military and civilian deaths are estimated at 70 to 85 million, about 3% of the global population during that time. World War II also saw the dawn of the nuclear age. The Manhattan Project and its culmination in the dropping of the atomic bombs on Japan led to the nuclear arms race that continued into the 1980s and to some level, even today. The United States and the nations of Western Europe formed NATO as a means of enhancing collective defense, and United Nations began to function as a body, one of whose goals was the prevention of further war. Once bitter enemies, now Japan and the United States are allies and continue to have a strong relationship.
The end of WWII was a time of transition. The war provided an opportunity for millions of Americans, and by the end of the war, the nation emerged as the worldβs dominant economic and military power. Women enjoyed employment gains during the war, 6 million women had entered the workforce for the first time, boosting the percentage of women in the total workforce to 35 percent in the manufacturing industry. After the war ended, over 85% of women wanted to keep their jobs although all were not able to do so.
Despite the opportunities that opened up for women and minorities during the war, old prejudices and policies persisted, both in the military and at home. By 1945, and the end of the war, more than 400 committees had been established by American communities to improve race relations. Progress was slow, but African Americans were determined not to give up the gains no matter how small they had made. In 1944, to help ease the transition of returning servicemen to civilian life, Congress passed the Servicemenβs Readjustment Act, better known as the GI Bill of Rights. This bill provided education and training for veterans, paid for by the federal government. Just over half the returning soldiers, or about 7.8 million veterans, attended colleges and technical schools under the GI Bill. The act also provided federal loan guarantees to veterans buying homes or farms or starting new businesses.

Crazy land horror show. That's what we're living in.
The self proclaimed King of the World -- what's he going to destroy next? How many more is he going to have killed?
Freedom of education? A meritocracy? I recently read that political leaders in China are allowed to run based on meritocracy. Sounds like a good idea. You know who wouldn't be president.
And the lies and gaslighting -- and still, some people believe it.
I didn't believe anything he said from the first time I saw him, for the record. I just look at his past behaviour and who his donors are, and that tells me who he'll serve and how he'll be.
I can't believe so many got sucked in.
Anyways, Najwan, I heave a sigh and say good night and wish you well.
And, as always, I thank you for all you do.
