The General Assembly resumed its 10th emergency special session on the issue of Israeli actions in occupied East Jerusalem and the rest of the Occupied Palestinian Territory. π₯ Eight killed, 2,750 wounded by exploding pagers across Lebanon: Health Minister
Al Jazeera English | Sep 17, 2024
More than a thousand people in Lebanon have been injured after hundreds of personal communication devices exploded simultaneously. It's believed most of the pagers were being carried by members of Hezbollah. Hezbollah has called it one of the biggest security breaches since the group was formed. Emergency departments have been inundated with injured Hezbollah members and civilians. Local media report says the pagers simultaneously exploded across the country after being hacked by Israel. The Health Ministry has appealed to all citizens who own pagers to dispose of them.

π₯ Lebanon in Crisis: Coping with the threat of war and economic collapse | The Stream
Al Jazeera English | Sep 17, 2024
While social media may show glimpses of people living their best lives in Beirut, the reality on the ground in Lebanon is far grimmer. The economy and government have all but collapsed, and analysts and residents agree the country "cannot afford another warβ. With more than 100,000 people displaced and 500 killed since October in cross-border fire between Hezbollah and Israel, parts of Lebanon are already battlegrounds. On The Stream, we ask how the countryβs young people can plan a future with 200 percent inflation, scarce electricity and war at the doorstep.

βThe Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs says that today its team was able to reach northern Gaza for the first time in four weeks. OCHA was leading an inter-agency assessment mission to Gaza City. However, they were only able to reach the north after being forced to wait for more than five hours before and at the Israeli checkpoint on the Coastal Road. OCHA warns that access to the north remains extremely limited for aid workers from the UN and other organizations.
During the first half of this month, out of nearly 50 missions led by seven different UN agencies β all of which had been fully coordinated with the Israeli authorities β only a quarter could cross into the north through the Israeli checkpoints along Wadi Gaza. Even when these missions could cross, they often faced impediments along the way. Some convoys were stopped at gunpoint, shot at, or forced to wait for hours in the middle of a war zone.β

Palestine is so deserving of a bright future.
And the children -- I can hardly stand to think of what they've been through, and those who have lost their lives.
I hope this latest move by the United Nations works, and I can't wrap my head around how Israel, the USA and its allies can keep claiming they have a right to do what they're doing.
Thanks for posting, Najwan.
