*10 of the 14 were activists from the Gaza flotilla carrying humanitarian aid to Gaza in May 2010 …
At approximately 11.30 p.m., however, the Mavi Marmara did change course to a bearing of 185 degrees directed towards the coast of Egypt. The Mavi Marmara and other vessels continued to receive warnings from the Israeli navy but no demand was made to “stop, search and visit” the vessels. From approximately 2.00 a.m. on 31 May 2010, Israeli naval vessels began to shadow the convoy. Communications from Israeli authorities ceased from this point. From approximately 4.00 a.m. satellite communications to and from the convoy vessels were blocked by Israeli authorities. The report describes the passengers as subject to an ever-growing anxiety and fear during this period.

🎥 International volunteers aware they face ‘genocidal military’ in West Bank: NGO
Al Jazeera English | Sep 8, 2024
Turkish authorities are working to repatriate the body of activist Aysenur Ezgi Eygi who was shot dead by Israeli forces in the occupied West Bank. Supporters have gathered at the Nablus Hospital where the dual Turkish-US citizen’s body is being held. She was shot in the head by an Israeli soldier while at a demonstration on Friday. However, the handover of her body may be delayed by the closure of the border crossings with Jordan.
🎥 Are restrictions on pro-Palestine speech 'the new McCarthyism?' | The Bottom Line
Al Jazeera English | Sep 8, 2024
The United States, and the West in general, are in a “dire period” of repression of speech on Palestinian freedom or criticism of Israel, argues Dima Khalidi, founder of Palestine Legal. Khalidi tells host Steve Clemons that despite strong constitutional protections for free expression, “there seems to be this exception when it comes to Palestine”, as witnessed by the wave of censorship, intimidation, firings and restrictions on activism in the wake of Israel’s war on Gaza. The situation is similar across Europe, says British journalist Richard Medhurst, who's been covering Gaza closely and was arrested for "speech crimes" upon arrival in London recently.

🎶 Hard Time
Seinabo Sey | Jul 23, 2018
Thanks for posting, Najwan.
When genocide becomes entertainment -- violence porn -- we're so out of whack.
There's such a disconnect between ordinary people who can't bear this ongoing slaughter and our ruling class that thinks that's just the way things have always been.
I wish I knew how to stop it.
Each word and line of your penetrating poetry continues to resonate, dear Najwan. So painful, but masterful. The list of the martyrs whom you honor is just the tip of an iceberg of tragedy, and there are so many that we will never be able to acknowledge individually. But we know that their lives will ultimately not be lost in vain. International volunteers face a genocidal military, free speech of protestors and defenders of justice is under threat everywhere, and the killing continues. "The theatre of cruelty, is in full swing," - but somehow, these killers will not prevail. Thank you for the courageous work that you do.
I really enjoyed the beautiful "Hard Time," by Seinabo Sey. It somehow captured my mood just perfectly.........
