Is Donald Trump a fan of โThe Golden Girlsโ? The famously progressive women-of-a-certain-age sitcom pilloried him in 1992, so probably not.
But it seems like there may have been a chance he was watching. The show contained a bit in 1987 about letting the Palestinians move to Greenland โ foreshadowing two of Trumpโs least expected and boldest gambits in his second term as US president.
In the two weeks since Trump took office, he first sent foreign policy shock waves by announcing an intention to acquire Greenland, the Danish territory that is the worldโs largest island but is home to just 57,000 people. Then, this week, he delivered an even greater shocker: He announced that โallโ Palestinians should leave Gaza, which has been pummeled by 16 months of war with Israel, sparked by the Hamas October 7 onslaught, and the United States would โtake over.โ

TikTokโs Chinese owner, ByteDance, on Thursday said it has finalized a deal to establish a majority American-owned joint venture that will secure U.S. data, to avoid a U.S. ban on the short video app used by over 200 million Americans.
The deal is a milestone for the social media firm after years of battles that began in August 2020 when President Donald Trump tried to ban the app over national security concerns.
Trump later opted not to enforce a law passed in April 2024 requiring ByteDance to sell its U.S. assets by the following January or face a ban - a measure upheld by the Supreme Court.
ByteDance said TikTok USDS Joint Venture LLC will secure U.S. user data, apps and algorithms through data privacy and cybersecurity measures. It disclosed few details about the divestiture.
Trump praised the deal in a social media post saying TikTok โwill now be owned by a group of Great American Patriots and Investors, the Biggest in the World.โ
He thanked Chinese President Xi Jinping โfor working with us and, ultimately, approving the Deal. He could have gone the other way, but didnโt, and is appreciated for his decision.โ
The agreement provides for American and global investors to hold 80.1% of the venture while ByteDance will own 19.9%.
TikTok USDS JVโs three managing investors - cloud computing giant Oracle (ORCL.N), opens new tab, private equity group Silver Lake (SILAK.UL) and Abu Dhabi-based investment firm MGX - will each hold 15%.

Coincidentally, I just watched that Marandi video before reading your post. Just wow! How sickening the plan to commit a colour revolution in Iran. Evil isn't strong enough a word, but what can we expect from genocidal maniacs?
And that Golden Girls bit -- how weird. It's interesting that so many Israelis are being kicked out of various countries. What a bloody sick society!
And those horrible plans for Gaza, and the lousy track record of the so-called peace plan.
