We Have a Censorship Problem
A fresh new post for a fresh new day! My earlier pieces of work were ones I had initially composed and posted on LinkedIn (I knowβ¦π), but that is until today! I grew weary of the silence and honestly this interface in comparison kicks butt! I feel like am home (which is a really foreign feeling for a π΅πΈ refugee, just saying) Also I donβt think Iβve ever looked prettier, my words that is, of course βΊοΈ..myself.. life could be better (i.e. genocide free, please?)
And honestly another motivating factor wasβ¦ (drum roll pleaseβ¦.)

And yeah man! You better believe I think you made a mistake?! Also protecting the community?β¦ Your community?!!β¦ Is that what weβre calling it these days?! Content moderation akin to suppressing communications you deem undesirable to your slanted agendas? Did you read my comment? And the others right below it?? You understand we are just simply asking (no, pleadingβ¦.beggingβ¦) the world to stop slaughtering us! To stop exterminating our children like theyβre vermin for the love of anything holy in this world π
If you know me or youβve read my first article, then you know I was born in the UAE π¦πͺ, and so unfortunately I know a thing or two about real censorship, lack of voice, lack of freedomβ¦ And in my naivety moving to the US πΊπΈ so many years later I thought my life was different, I thought I had oneβ¦ My mistake π
Be it your moderation machine learning or algorithmic automation, are we really to believe you are God like? Inserting your commercial priorities over our human equity? Exercising callous dominance in your digital castles? Denying our fair online expressions? Dominating and bullying our increasingly digital society? There is no sovereignty or glory in the discourses you create!
The world as it stands is only a surface success, because really the transmission of our precious and prized technological innovations of cognitive computing have not enhanced our connectivity or inclusion or growth. It is no great equalizer. It simply serves as a facade and you, the fake actors asserting corporate societal authority over billions, are simplyβ¦.evilβ¦
And as you continue to do that, our children continue to be slaughtered π
It is an interesting post. Just to comment further on the subject, yes in the UAE we used to get our information with the use of proxies and VPN. Here, censorship is a way to control what is being fed out.
Lets look at it in another way. Remember the day we had TV for the antenna channels? Well guess what... I hooked my TV to a powered antenna that I bought from amazon to get at least 11 OTA Channels. Two things shocked me. First was that some channels were advertising about the poor conditions people are living in Israel and asking for donations in an emotional way. The second was the way TV was meant to feed us TARGETED information. This information is a diversion of what is happening on the ground, a reality that is barred from reaching.
With the presence of the Internet, we were able to break that one way of information feeding and get public opinion out. Although this was good, information will flow out of control, especially in the last few years. First is by censoring the information, second is by distributing rumors, third by manipulating public opinion count and lastly by the politics of the trusted source.
