A little playbook I’ve come to understand, the patterning of (moral schmoral) Israeli army’s, media blackouts.. A must-have! for every illegal settler colonial state! Example akin, similar context, creation of, this very own, United States 🫡
Target journalists!

shut down all websites!
revoke press-credentials!
destroy their newsrooms!
cut off, communications!

and simply block!

“The targeting and restrictions on any media in Gaza and then these targeted embeds [with Israel’s military] shows this multifaceted campaign to have a media blackout to restrict coverage and to diffuse criticism about what the Israeli military is doing,”
The Israeli war on Gaza has killed more journalists over the past year than any other conflict over the past three decades, according to data by the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ).
According to the CPJ, a US-based group monitoring human rights violations against journalists worldwide, at least 128 media workers were killed in the conflict between 7 October 2023 and 4 October 2024. The organisation is also investigating a further 130 cases of suspected killings, detentions or injuries.
The group said it's the deadliest period for journalists since it began its documentation activities in 1992.
More than 12 months later, Israel is still killing journalists in Gaza.

On 1 November 2023, RSF filed its first complaint. The second was filed on 22 December, and the third on 27 May 2024. Following the first two complaints, the office of ICC Prosecutor Karim Khan assured RSF that crimes against journalists have been included in its investigation into the situation in Palestine. Since 2018, RSF's work has been instrumental in spurring ICC investigations into crimes against journalists.
Given the scale of this tragedy, RSF decided to file a fourth complaint on 24 September 2024. RSF has documented the circumstances surrounding the attacks that targeted nine journalists between December 2023 and September 2024; eight journalists were killed and one was injured.

Notably absent from this coverage of the war and its reverberations was any mention of the killing of Palestinian civilians, or of the perils now facing the more than 2 million people trapped in the besieged enclave—including not only Israel’s military campaign, but also famine, thirst, displacement, and lack of medical care.
In most Israeli media coverage, “it is as if [Palestinian civilians] don’t exist,” Gideon Levy, a reporter for the left-leaning Israeli daily Haaretz, which has covered the plight of Palestinians in Gaza, told the progressive American news program Democracy Now!. On international news networks, “you see Gaza. You see children dying on the dirty floors of the hospitals, bleeding to death. You see the uprooted people, you see the destruction, you see the suffering . . . and the starvation,” Levy said. “In Israel you see only the soldiers, only the hostages.”

Netanyahu put a lot of effort into making Israeli media loyal or flattering. He made himself the minister of communications and media—what we call in Hebrew Tikshoret. Some of his corruption charges are connected to his behavior in that role. He tried to give orders to media outlets. For example, he and his wife told Walla to remove articles. He planted people who are not journalists in the army radio station, which is actually one of the two mainstream Israeli radio stations. Netanyahu encouraged billionaire Sheldon Adelson to establish a newspaper to explicitly help the right wing. This newspaper, Israel Hayom, was handed out for free in public places like squares and train stations, and is widely considered to be one of the largest factors in Netanyahu’s return to power. It’s why in Israel, we call it “Bibiton,” or “Bibi newspaper,” though it has also been critical of him at times recently.

🎥 People in besieged north Gaza are ‘crying out for help’: AJE correspondent
Al Jazeera English | Oct 20, 2024
One of the largest overnight strikes hit Beit Lahyia in the north of Gaza. Nearly 100 Palestinians were killed and dozens were injured there. Civil defence crews are searching through the wreckage of residential buildings - and the death toll is expected to rise. The Israeli military is continuing its siege of Northern Gaza with the United Nations warning that Palestinians are being forced to endure unspeakable horrors.
And so many people are believing this distorted news, and seem to be OK with all the journalists being killed.
It's crazy making.
Thanks for posting, Najwan.
